The Wrigley Pension Plan Trustees and the Wrigley Company wanted to increase understanding and appreciation of the benefits provided by the Wrigley Pension Plan amongst members. They also wished to encourage a greater sense of ownership and responsibility for retirement planning.
We decided to create an animated character to tell the story about the pension plan in a series of bite-sized videos.
We asked members what topics they wanted us to cover. The style needed to be different – we needed the videos to stand out and encourage repeat and future viewings. We decided on the ostrich as pensions is a subject which makes so many people bury their heads in the sand.
The videos are part of a larger campaign which included teaser mailings, a pensions handbook, newsletter and dedicated website.

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Over half of the Plan members visited the website, with most of these coming back on two or more occasions. We now have three videos in the series and will be seeking members’ views on future topics. The videos won an Award for Excellence at the Institute of Internal Communications Central Awards.
